Progress at Plan B Burger Bar Coming to Penn Quarter

801 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW

Lots of progress for the Plan B Burger Bar coming to the former lunch spot (that had the good slice of pizza) in the Navy Memorial Plaza by the Archives-Navy Memorial metro stop. They’ve now posted a liquor license placard which says:

“A full service restaurant focusing on beef dishes with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage service. DJs and live musicians may perform occasionally.”

Hours are listed as Sunday through Thursday 11 am – 2 am and Friday through Saturday 11 am – 3 am.

Their website says they offer beef, burgers, bourbon and beer. You can see their full menus here.

A peek inside the space reveals they’ve also completed a lot of the buildout but still have a ways to go before opening. Updates when they get closer.

  • If a pizza place from Atlanta (the nadir of pizza, even worse than DC) can succeed, I guess a burger place from Hartford (land of forgettable restaurants) can.

    • I’ve been to one of the ones in West Hartford, it’s a really good burger place and I’ll be going when it opens here. I worry about the saturation of burger places, but I guess this one isn’t all that close to the glut of burger places.

      • It is pretty close to 5 Guys, Shake Shack and Fuddruckers. Not that I would classify these as good burger joints, but still close by. I don’t know if Plan B is more of a fast burger joint (like the three I mentioned) or a gourmet burger joint, but hopefully, the latter.

I also agree that the name should be changed.

        • Oh, and I forgot Red Apron, which is right next door.

          • Wow, I’m so behind, I didn’t know there was a Shake Shack in Chinatown. Plan B is more of a sit down, gourmet type burger and fry place (seriously, get the green bean fries), so I don’t think 5 guys and Fuddruckers are direct competition. I also didn’t realize that’s where Red Apron is, so that’s an issue.

          • But I agree that the name is dumb, there’s really no arguing that. But I like the place in spite of it.

        • You’ve obviously never been to a Plan B. It’s nothing like a Shake Shack.

  • They need to change the name.

  • Yeah, HORRIBLE name. This would only work in Adams Morgan to fuel a night of regrettable choices.

  • As a current CT resident, I’ve been to most of the Plan Bs in the area (the B is for beer, bourbon and burgers – honestly, I never think about the contraceptive name any more) and they’re some of the better burgers I’ve had. Not fast food-ish like Five Guys or Shake Shack (both of which I like a lot). Much more gourmet style burgers – agree with the green fries comment (flash fried green beans with salt – really good) and a big fan of the parmesan or truffle tater tots.

Also, the bourbon selection tends to be fairly vast at most locations. Sincerely hope it does well in DC.

    • The burgers are great…the spirit selection is amazing. Hopefully one of these days they’ll actually be able toil a proper cocktail. If the B stands for bourbon and your manhattan and/or sazerac isn’t on point I call that questionable. Also…order your burger pink or no pink…the only two options and good luck.
