Holy Garden Haul Vol. 8

Another great one from Mt. Pleasant:

“We picked this collection of spinach, tomatoes, banana pepper, and purple green beans last week. A very colorful and delicious selection!”

If you have a great haul, beautiful tomato or something like that, send an email and a couple photos to princeofpetworth(at)gmail with your neighborhood and garden haul in the subject line and I’ll pick a few winners a week (free PoPville t-shirt or tote bag.)

Does people test the soil of their properties in order to know that it’s not full of lead, pesticides, etc.? I’m all for home gardening and always wonder if people are poisoning themselves by doing this. I’m sure the vegetables that we get at the store are the same thing or worse anyway. Just curious.

  • We did test our soil. We also built raised beds and constructed our own soil to put in the raised beds (mix of compost, peat moss, and vermiculite). So we’re reasonably certain we’re not poisoning ourselves 🙂
