Speak Up for a Youth in Foster Care:

“Court Appointed Special Advocates speak up for children in the DC Foster Care system. CASAs are appointed by a judge to represent the best interest of a child. CASAs form a relationship with a child, gather information, make recommendations and provide the court with valuable insight into a child’s life. CASAs dedicate a minimum of 10-15 hours/ month to their case for at least a year. For more information check out our website.”

Musical Theater Writing Group?

“I’m wondering if anyone knows about a musical theater writing group. I’m casually working on a musical (in my spare time) and am seeking writing partners (specifically a lyricist). While there are screenwriters groups in DC, I haven’t found anything for theater. Thank you”

  • I’m a new CASA that just finished the training last month if anyone is curious but has questions about the experience!

    • I’m interested., but I’m a teacher and can’t really take off time during work hours. Would that be a problem?

  • and I was a CASA from 2010-13 and am glad to answer questions as well!

    • How big is the time commitment (is 10-15 accurate?)?
Is it a lot of travel outside the city? Are the hours during work hours?
Basically I’m really interested but worried about the time and logistics. I live and work in DC, don’t drive much, and have a “9-5” which is really more of a 8-7. Is it feasible for me, or no?

  • The CASA website doesn’t work. 🙁
