  • Sad it takes a murder before the city finally seals off this notorious problem area. This should have been done a long time ago.

    • I don’t think this has anything to do with the recent murder but more to do with the relocation of all the utilities in that area because of the construction for the project over the span of I395.

    • I just drove past here and all of the people that occupied the park are now hanging out under the trees between 2nd street and New Jersey Ave just south of K St NW. The loitering problem has not been addressed, just moved a block north.

      • We don’t have a loitering problem. There is nothing to see here.

      • People have been hanging out under those trees for years, often times setting up tents. It’s also where local ‘meals on wheels’ stop to feed the homeless. More people may have relocated there from the park. Between that park, underneath the trees, and the tent city that has grown just off 395 (look down from the south side of the mass ave bridge) is consistently problematic. Really wish the cops would do more than drive by… and no, I don’t know what the best solution is but there has to be something better than what is currently going on there around here.

  • I don’t know for sure, but I suspect the area is fenced off because of the on going construction – not related to the murder. That whole area is going to see some serious construction (Cap Crossing), so this is probably related to that.

  • This park was notoriously packed with homeless, which I have no problem with. But now the same people are just standing on the street corner as another commenter noted. That seems generally unsafe. What will be MPD’s response to that?
