From a press release:

Tickets are now on sale for the National Zoo’s annual Brew at the Zoo event, held on Thursday, July 17, 2014 from 6 to 9 p.m. Hosted by Friends of the National Zoo, more than 60 breweries from around the world will travel to D.C. for the beer tasting extravaganza, all in support of wildlife conservation. Local favorites such as Port City Brewing Company and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery will be joined by popular microbreweries including DC Brau Brewing Company, Brooklyn Brewery, Flying Dog Brewery, and New Belgium Brewing Company.

“Being able to taste over 60 brews from some amazing craft and microbreweries, all in the park-like setting of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo, really sets this event apart,” said Robert Lamb, Executive Director of Friends of the National Zoo. “Where else can you drink beer and support wildlife?”

VIP ticket holders are invited to mingle in the exclusive VIP area where they will receive full pours of beer and complimentary food tastings by local restaurants including Matchbox, Nick’s Riverside Grill, and Meridian Pint.

VIP guests will get to enjoy special animal demonstrations and will be granted early admission to the event before the general public. VIP tickets are $85 for FONZ members and $100 for nonmembers. General admission tickets are $50 for FONZ members and $65 for nonmembers. Early admission is also available for purchase as an add-on to general admission.

In addition to sampling great hops, guests will be able to purchase food from local spots including Ledo’s Pizza , Rocklands Barbecue and popular food trucks. Guests will be able to mingle with new and old friends while playing lawn games and listening to the live band SLY 45.

Proceeds from the Brew at the Zoo event go toward animal care and conservation at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and around the world. Now that’s something worth toasting!”

  • Headline is wrong – the date is the 17th not the 11th.

  • Has anyone been to this and is it worth the money? I love the zoo and supporting a good cause and beer but some of these festivals really suck. Like insanely long lines to get a taste of anything etc…Would love to hear an opinion from someone who has actually been.

    • I don’t know about ‘worth the money’ but have been to Zoofari multiple times and it is a nice event. This is a different one but can’t see why it wouldn’t be a good time as well. But if you are looking for a deal – this isn’t the place.

    • I went a few years ago. It was worth it. There were a couple of breweries with lines, but they weren’t long and they moved quickly. There were some fun games and such. It’s not worth it as a deal, to echo what Anonymous 7:48 said, but as a fundraiser it was really well run and a good time. I’m buying tickets to go again this year.

  • I went like 4-5 years ago and was afraid I wouldnt get to drink everything I wanted. The lines werent too long and moved fast. The vendors were cool and poured a lot more than supposed to. I was pretty much content and wasted well before the end. The breweries were not anything special back then and I personally dont know if its worth it unless you are really excited about supporting the cause. I would rather do Snallygaster.

Yeah, if you’re coming here primarily for the beers you’ll be disappointed if you’re a regular drinker. There’s nothing here you can’t get at basically every one of these festivals. If you’re coming just for the event’s sake, then you’ll probably enjoy it. I think it’s a pretty good time, with the bonus of having some decent beer to drink.

  • For years, my request to rename this event Get Drunky with a Monkey has fallen upon deaf ears.
