  • Who in their right mind is paying $1325 to split a basement bathroom with another person? I pay $25 more for my own damn studio that I share with nobody.

  • It’s pretty arrogant to believe they can fetch that for a dungeon just because it’s U Street and has Spanish tile.

  • Come on now.. basement for $2,650 utilities not included (even if they were).

Soften the height restrictions, restrict that type of construction to previously under-developed areas (nats stadium), and give us our neighborhoods back. The rent is too damn high!

  • I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that all of those complaining about rents would feel very differently if they owned that home. Rents are high, yes. But if you ever aspire to own a home, you should probably delight in a strong housing market. Unless, of course, you want to buy low, and then rent high and have people call you arrogant.

    • I wrote the “arrogant” reply, I own a dc home and rent it for a fair, profitable amount but certainly not an arrogant amount.

  • I hate to say this about a neighbor’s house but that is FUGLY!

  • This one has been kicking around Craigslist for a few weeks (we’ve been looking). They either took new pictures with better lighting or photoshopped the old ones, because it actually looks much less scary in the PoP listing. Here’s the CL listing for comparison:

The price is actually in line with the neighborhood for 2 bedrooms and a parking spot, but this particular basement just looked too depressing in the pictures for us to want to bite.

    • Whoa. Looking at the CL pictures made me cringe. I fully expected to see a well in the middle of the floor and Buffalo Bill dancing around in his kimono.

  • you can get an above ground 2br for that price in that area.

  • You people are so angry! I wish there was a redfin for rentals because I would love to see if this gets rented at this price. I can’t imagine the pool of applicants for this would be large since there’s only one bathroom, it’s a basement, and there are so many brand new places popping up nearby that aren’t that much more expensive, but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone rents it any way. This town never ceases to amaze me.
