“My friends recently bought an apartment as a rental investment property. They live out of the region. They have a contract with a rental licensing company to run the renting part, and the company advised that they find a DC resident to become their “resident agent”. They asked me to become one. According to my friend the resident agent merely serves to receive summons or other legal communication. I don’t know anything about the “resident agent” role. Should they have legal trouble with a tenant or DC would I then be involved in the lawsuit? Thanks!”
