Hmmm I do have a formal gown that needs wearing…

  • I hadn’t planned on going to Chi Cha Lounge to watch World Cup anyways… But really? No soccer jerseys?

  • Their strictly enforced dress code doesn’t apply to the World Cup games. Behind the sign, it says “Enjoy Food and Drink Specials | Games Kick Off Daily | Free Admission | Team Jerseys Encouraged”

  • This is still happening? Last I heard, Brazil was unsurprisingly way, way behind with the development necessary to support the World Cup. That country is a perpetual hot mess.

    • Nah, they’re just going to take this WC off and try again in 4 years. For someone as in tune with the situation in Brazil as you clearly are, I thought you would have known this!
It’s the biggest sporting competition on earth, OF COURSE it’s still going to happen.

      • Yeah, it’s going to happen alright, and so are the Olympics in 2016. And they’re going to be miserable disasters that show the world Brazil is nowhere near ready to host such huge international events. Like it or not, it’s still a developing nation and will be for a long time, due to its relative isolation, legacy of corruption and lack of a civilized society. It’ll be a mess, just wait and see.

        • I don’t know. I mean, on the one hand I agree that the run up to this has been a mess, and Brazil isn’t the most competent.

On the other hand, everyone was all SOUTH AFRICA’S WORLD CUP WILL BE AN UNMITIGATED DISASTER and in the end? It was fine. And having lived in both Brazil and South Africa for a short time (~6-8 months on each) I feel like Brazil is at least as well placed as South Africa to pull it off, if not better.

Lack of a civilized society? Say what?

          • Maybe you’ve missed the widespread violence that’s currently sweeping across cities there such as Rio? Of course as a tourist or upper class individual you might be somewhat insulated from it, but there is a great deal of unrest there most of the time. Okay, lack of a civilized society may be a bit of an exaggeration, but it’s undeniable that much of the population there has a different idea of what a civil, orderly society is, when compared to Western norms.

    • Still happening, but something will almost certainly go terribly wrong.

  • What’s bigger?

  • Feel free to put on your team Jerseys.
Athletic Wear will be allowed during the games!

  • “Holy 1990s-when-the-lounge-concept-was-brand-new-to-DC-and-Chi Cha (and their sister businesses)-could- [email protected], Batman!!!” Seriously, Chi Cha Lounge is still in business?!!! I’m impressed that Mauricio, Steven and the gang pulled through the halcyon days of the late `90’s when you could get away with weak (but expensive) drinks, a carefully and deliberately ‘racially-manicured’ clientele and a staff that dished a-t-t-i-t-u-d-e like it was a badge of honor. Ahhh, (reasonably) old-school DC… The ‘new’ DC (District of Clarendon) would hardly recognize ye….
