  • The lost buildings are 470 and 472 K Street NW. 470 was a 2-story dwelling built in 1902 for Wm. H. Schluter. 472 K was 3-stories and built no later than 1873. Carriage maker John McDermott owned all the lots around that corner in the 1880s. He built the neighboring buildings at 468 K (1883) and 476 K (the corner, 1889) which appear to be intact.

  • I walked by there yesterday afternoon, and all the demolition had kicked up quite a bit of dust, and the scent of skankstank hung heavy in the air.
