Skillet Sandwich Shop Pops Up at Black Whiskey in Logan Circle

1410 14th Street, NW

Cool new lunch option for those in Logan Circle – Skillet Sandwich Shop:

“Chef Crafted, Rustic Sandwiches
Located inside Black Whiskey
Operating Hours: Wednesday – Friday, 11am – 2pm, Saturday 11am – 7pm
closed Sunday & Monday”

I spoke with one of the owners of Black Whiskey who says the pop up is indefinite and is from the guy who ran the People’s Bao ramen pop up in Columbia Heights.

  • I had the Dark & Stormy last week, it was pretty good.

  • nice logo

& i feel like if black whiskey changed their sinage they would get more business
with that name and an interesting facade curiosity would get the best of people passing by

Completely agree. They could do a lot with that huge front window rather than just hanging dark curtains and ambiguous signs. That said… I know I never have to wait long at the bar upstairs, especially on a weekday! As long as they’re doing enough business to stay open, I’m good with keeping it more of a secret.

Yeah I think that added to some of the appeal on my visits. It wasn’t slammed like Black Jack / ChurchKey, and you can get a drink in a matter of seconds.

  • Fancy sandwiches– the new cupcakes?

  • Love the logo. Wish they were open on Sundays for an after-church nosh…

  • Loooove the logo. But why did you have to choose the most flavorless of the veggies?

  • Heritage pork. I guess that means the server can tell you when your pork’s great-great grandfather emigrated from Germany.

Here’s to hoping this is better than the terrible ramen these guys served up in CH. That was easily one of the worst bowls I’ve ever had, only barely beating out Daikaya.

  • What does “pop-up” mean in regard to a restaurant?

    • justinbc

It has various iterations, but the basic premise is a temporary installation of some concept (who generally hasn’t signed a lease to be in the space they’re occupying). It’s often done to preview the food of a soon-to-open restaurant or for entrepreneurs who want to showcase what they can do but don’t have the capital to have their own space and would like to test the waters of their culinary wares.
