MPD in “hot pursuit of a rabid raccoon”

Tweet of the morning from @TarpsTwin:

“MPD in hot pursuit of a rabid raccoon on the 1400 block of Perry Pl NW.”

When asked if they had a photo of the scene:

“no I was too busy running for my life.”

  • Saw a dead one this morning along the Rock Creek Park Trail right outside the Zoo’s back entrance.

  • the other morning we awoke to find a completely eviscerated raccoon on our (fenced) back patio. No blood, just a torn up raccoon. Our best guess was that a hawk or something dropped it and had a snack. It didn’t come into the yard looking like that, and we heard no signs of struggle.

    (cool story, bro.)

But animal control was totally uninterested since the thing was already dead.

I’d like to nominate this exchange for tweet of the week (a category/contest I just made up.)

  • Git em boys!

  • I saw this raccoon this morning when I was running – it was walking down the middle of Ogden Street and scared the crap out of me! Definitely did not look right. I ran away from it, too!

  • Poor Jim Graham…he’s really gone down hill quickly since Election Night!

  • A man in a movie theater notices what looks like a raccoon sitting next to him. “Are you a raccoon?” asks the man, surprised. “Yes.” “What are you doing at the movies?” The raccoon says, “Well, I liked the book.”

  • When I hear “hot pursuit,” I immediately think of Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane. Who would totally chase a raccoon – and not catch him.

Have I just outed myself as older than your average POPer?

    • You’re not alone! I was just coming to post, “why when I read this do I hear the Dukes of Hazzard chase music in my head?”

Yee-haw! Get ’em Enos! Get ’em!

  • Maybe it’s time for TPTB to consider more aggressive measures of controlling the raccoon population in the park. They’re almost as bad as the deer.
