  • I have been watching the progress and I love how it turned out! It’s definitely one of my favorites in the area.

  • Thanks PoP! Doing our best to promote public art in Old City!

So this is a new painting, made to look vintage?

      • Yep, the mural just a couple months old. But the house is almost 130 years old, so we wanted the mural to match its character and the character of the neighborhood, Old City!

I’m curious who you commissioned, and if you don’t mind sharing the cost? I’ve got a huge side wall I would love to emblazon with something like this!

  • If I wanted a mural done on the side of my house which companies do this? I think it would be awesome to have an ol’ timey advertisement or something.

    • We got a list of mural artists from the D.C. Commission on Arts and Humanities, put out a request for proposals, and chose the one we liked best. I’d be happy to pm PoP our artist’s contact info if you’d like to get in touch.

Take a look at Cherry Blossom Creative.

  • This is the first time I’ve seen Old City mentioned in anything other than tax records.

    • True. It’s one of those names like Truxton Circle that have long been out of use or were never actually used in passing to describe a neighborhood, which have been adopted by real estate developers and recent arrivals.

      • Actually, Old City is the way the long time residents of our neighborhood refer to the area. We have two lovely neighbors behind us that have owned their house since 1947, and they look at you funny if you say “Near Northeast.” To them, it is, and always has been, Old City.

And, per Truxton Cirlce, it actually existed as a neighborhood as well, complete with a fountain – see http://www.popville.com/2009/06/reader-finds-remnants-of-truxton-circle/

        • I like knowing this. The “Old City” reference in tax records seemed odd to me and I’m happier knowing it’s a neighborhood and not just a descriptor of older parts of DC.

  • Please some do Swampoodle!!!

  • Weird…I was just going past there today thinking to myself that it was weird POP hadn’t covered this mural yet. I am a big fan!
