  • The shots fired were definitely closer to P than Q. There were 15/20 shots fired rapidly and our neighbors spotted the guy with dreads moving south on 5th towards O afterwards. Tried calling 911 but the lines were busy for over 4 minutes and I hung up once I heard cop cars arrive. That wait was almost more disconcerting than the gunfight outside our house.

  • Well, that video seems largely useless – could be just about anyone.

    • Totally useless.

    • Definitely not going to stand up in court as ID of the perps – but it might be enough for someone to give the cops a lead.

    • And yet, lots of people here wish we had more useless surveillance, because it makes them feel safer or something.

      • I’m pretty sure those people don’t advocate for the widespread use of low-resolution black and white cameras…

….or, you could look at the murder on Hamilton and New Hampshire from last summer that was solved because a homeowner had security cameras that got the murderer and his car on tape. But hey, to each their own.

      • If you’re a private business, cameras are there mostly for insurance purposes. Yeah, catching the criminals would be nice. But that’s secondary to being made whole.

      • Tell that to the two people in jail for a long time on murder one – the shooting was caught on home surveillance cameras.

  • I disagree that it’s useless. While it probably doesn’t have a lot of value to identifying that person as a stranger if you ran into them in a public place, it might be enough for someone to recognize it as looking like someone they know well, who they know has some sort of motive to do something like this. Think about it – if you knew that your neighbor had a problem with someone who lived on that block (I don’t think they’ve released a motive, so maybe it’s an ex girlfriend who lives near there or something), you had seen your neighbor with a gun or had heard them talking about owning one, and then you saw this video and realized one of the guys kinda looks like your neighbor – similar build, similar hair, owns a similar jacket, etc, it might be worthwhile to call the police and let them know about it. Might be nothing, but it might be a good lead.

  • THE worst video. EVER!!! I can’t tell weight, height, complexion, the only reason I know the one guy has locks is because of a comment.

  • Most of these surveillance videos seem to be such shitty quality. Are they ever useful. I find it hard to believe with todays technology that there are much much better camaras.

    • There are much better camera systems for a few hundred dollars. And for a few thousand dollars, truly spectacular systems.

  • I’m confused by Anon 3:25 statement. The shootings in question took place at 5th and Q, not close to the P street side of the block. The bodies were taken to by ambulance where they fell at 5th and Q, with bloodstains to prove it. I heard the shots loud and clear from my house about half block away. I picked up the phone as soon as the shots ended and called 911. The sirens had arrived before I even hung up with 911. Cops were there SUPER fast.

  • The reward is $25,000 from the MPD briefing Thursday at KIPP. There were at least 10 shell casing found closer to the P Street end of the block according to this post with photo evidence:
