UPDATE Thanks to a reader for noticing a new note on the Elephant walk route page:

No DC Elephant Walk this year
Unfortunately, due to a change in schedule we will not be having the D.C. elephant walk this year. We hope that you’ll join Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus at the Verizon Center through March 23 to see our famous Asian elephants!”

  • Note: I clicked the view the route link for the elephant walk, and it says that due to a change in schedule, there will be no elephant walk this year.

    • Just as well… poor elephants.
I grew up thinking that the circus was good and wholesome and all that, but what I’ve learned about Ringling and about elephants in recent years has totally changed my opinion.

  • I’m glad it’s cancelled and I wish DC and the Verizon Center had the balls to turn down Ringling. Circuses don’t need performing animals to be successful, i.e. Cirque du Soleil. Shame on them for the way they train, transport and house their slave performers. Parents have much better options in the DC area to entertain their children.

  • I can’t believe Ringling still exists. I cringe every time a commercial comes on. Poor animals 🙁

  • I’ll definitely be protesting that elephant walk, because I can’t stand elephants!

  • Until the law reflects the sentiment, greed will win. Uninformed or passively ignorant attendees will car their kids to the circus and continue to contribute to the abuse.
