Brightwood/Takoma DC, located directly north of Petworth, directly east of 16th Street Heights, and directly south of Silver Spring, is the NW counterpart neighborhood for buyers also looking at detached houses in the NE neighborhood of Brookland. Although the comments in the original Good Deal or Not (GDoN) post garnered at least one “not an easy walk to the Metro” comment, these neighborhoods offer more space indoors and out compared to locations closer in to downtown.

Detached homes in this area range from Sears kit bungalows to Four Squares to grand Victorian mansions to unique stone Tudor-ish houses. List prices in the past six months have ranged from $189,000. (safe bet it went much higher and for cash) on up to the high $700’s. The area is well known by swimmers and triathletes for the easy access to the Takoma Pool at 300 Van Buren St NW. The development at the Georgia Ave Walter Reed Army Medical Center campus will have a major impact on the area. There is already a recently update Safeway in the vicinity (at Piney Branch and Georgia), and one of the brand new Walmarts just opened, as well.

The listing agent was Brian Cusick of Central Properties, LLC. The purchaser was represented by Vanessa Patterson with Realty Associates.

  • I’m always puzzled by the perception that this neighborhood is “too far from the metro.” I also heard this stated in relation to retail/housing at the Walter Reed Site. This property is a 10 minute walk to the Takoma metro.

If you lived in the heart of Adams Morgan (say Ontario and Columbia), you would have a 15 minute walk to the metro.

  • In my opinion, Adams-Morgan is not very Metro accessible. I would say that also applies to the house listed here.

    • A 10 minute walk is too far? Wow… I guess 95% of DC isn’t metro accessible….

      • Not “too far” but not very close either. I lived in Adams-Morgan for years, and I took the Metro sometimes, but I wouldn’t say it was convenient. The buses were much more useful.
