The Einstein Memorial

The Einstein Memorial is located outside the National Academy of Sciences building at 2101 Constitution Ave, NW.

The right to search for truth implies also a duty; one must not conceal any part of what one has recognized to be true.

After Jeanne d’Arc in Meridian Hill Park – I think this is my favorite sculpture in the district:

  • Legend has it that what ever you whisper into Al’s ear will come true.

  • If you stand in the center of the starscape at his feet and speak to him, it echoes back to you.

    Pretty cool.

  • Too bad you are poop.

  • Weird in retrospect, but totally cool in the moment:
Some friends and I ended up down there back in the college days at maybe 1 AM, a lady friend and I ended up spontaneously humming (more like “dun-dunning”) in harmony and melody, respectively, Mozart’s “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” 1st movement, entirely, to the amused and interested silence of our other friends that you could only get as drunk undergrads. It was sublime.

  • I hate this style of sculpture (anyone know what it’s called?) but love it otherwise.

  • Interesting entertainment fact: Albert Brooks birth name was Albert Einstein, but he had it changed. His brother “Super Dave” Einstein kept his last name.

  • you have miraculous bowel movements.
