Dear PoPville – Bars for Pre-Gaming Sunday Morning?

Photo by PoPville flickr user abo23

“Dear PoPville,

My friend is coming in to town from KC for the Redskins game this weekend and we don’t have the means to tailgate so I’m looking for a bar that will be serving breakfast and beers by 8am or at latest 9am on Sunday morning. Does anyone in DC do that? Bonus points for anything off the Orange/Blue line.”

I know Lou’s in Columbia Heights opens at 10am. 51st State near Foggy Bottom opens at noon. Anyone know a spot that opens early near Orange/Blue lines?

  • crystal city sports pub @ 8

  • I could be mistaken, but I don’t think bars and restaurants in DC can serve alcohol before a certain hour in the morning. Maybe 10am? 11? Not sure.

  • Fado opens early for British football matches and serve beer and breakfast and only a short walk to Metro Center

  • Beast bet as far as location may be something on barracks row that opens early

  • As someone already mentioned, there are lot of bars that open early for Premier League (English) soccer matches as early as 7am. Lucky Bar in Dupont, Irish Channel in Chinatown too. Also over at H Street, The Queen Vic opens early for LIverpool games, which on Saturday is at 10am.

  • Drafting Table on 14th Street opens at 8am, it’s not TOOOOO far from the orange line.

  • Four Courts near the Courthouse Metro Station is typically open early (and serving drinks!) for soccer games and has a solid brunch.

    Also, go Chiefs!

  • Grab a six-pack or more and walk around the lots drinking openly with your buddies. Done it a few times and always find a few welcoming tailgates to join-in on.

  • Nothing the Redskins do anymore can get me out of bed before 8am.

  • Tabard Inn opens at 7am. 14K is also open at 7am. I would think most restaurants connected to hotels would be open on the early side. Another easy way to answer this question would be to go to open table, and look for a morning reservation on Sunday. I am sure there are plenty of places.

  • I think Tune Inn on Penn serves at 8am. We watched the ND game in Dublin there last year and were able to drink.

  • The Diner, Coupe, Open City all are open and serving at 8 a.m., but obviously not near the Blue/Orange.

  • Do what I did last week. Buy a disposable grill (, and pack some meat in bags of ice. Throw it all into a couple paper bags, with some beer, and you can dump everything you don’t consume before you enter the stadium. No vehicle needed.

  • Crystal City Sports Pub is the place to go! I hear their Sunday morning brunch and pre-game party is a great time. They may also run a shuttle/provide transportation to the game.

  • Seconding Tune Inn. I think Pour House over by Eastern Market also opens early. However, I believe that’s a Stillers bar, so you might have some trouble finding the Skins game on TVs there.

  • I’m sure Ted’s Bulletin starts serving and they open at 7

  • incidentally – i have my season tickets available for this weekend’s game, and have to be out of town for a wedding. anyone have any interest? they’re nosebleeds (section 422), and i’ve got 4!

  • Touchdown on Ust opens at 10am Green Line bottomless mimosas, cheap beer, natty boh and whiskey shot for $5
