Restaurant Scuttlebutt for City Market at O – Mintwood II or a Restaurant from Top Chef Winner Kevin Sbraga?

7th and O Street, NW

I got some really sweet scuttlebutt from a pretty reliable source yesterday. They hear one of the restaurant spaces for City Market at O will be filled by the folks behind Mintwood Place in Adams Morgan. You can see Mintwood’s menu here. Mintwood Place was recently named best new restaurant at the 2013 RAMMY Awards.

Another reliable source says that they hear one of the restaurant spots could be taken by Top Chef season 7 winner Kevin Sbraga:

“a New Jersey native and winner of Bravo’s, Top Chef (season 7) Washington D.C. By September 2011, he became the chef-owner of Sbraga, a modern American restaurant on the Avenue of the Arts in Philadelphia.”

You can see Sbraga’s menu here.

It’s not clear if there is room for both of these restaurants or only one. Looking forward to learning more! Updates when new info becomes available.

  • Good news. Great to see Shaw continue to grow.

Looks like there could be room for both. According to the developer’s siteplan there are 5 retail spaces (excluding the Giant). Dolci Gelati is taking one of the spots. That leaves 4 unclaimed.

  • having a Mintwood II so close to home gives me wood

  • Here’s to hoping they’re able to get both projects.

  • I would love to see Mintwood down there!!

  • While both look like nice places they seem pretty spendy, particularly for Shaw.

Something like the Coupe on 11th would probably fit quite a bit better. A casual yet interesting place to go more regularly, that doesn’t cost a lot.

Wow, that Sbraga menu is all over the place! I’m not sure how you could classify that as anything but “global cuisine”. That’s pretty ambitious, and eccentric.
