From District Department of the Environment:

“Hippity hop…have you seen Peter Cottontail? If so, we need your help! The District Department of the Environment, Fisheries and Wildlife Division is monitoring the population of Eastern cottontail rabbits in the District. You can become a Citizen Scientist by recording your rabbit sightings and sharing them with our biologists. Your efforts will play a vital role in helping protect and conserve rabbits in the city. For more information on the program and how to become a volunteer, please contact Lindsay Rohrbaugh at citizen.science(at)dc.gov”

I like the number of rabbit and fox sightings we are getting. I am waiting for the fox vs. rabbit sightings…

  • I’m not bad, I was just drawn this way!

  • I’m sure we can all agree that this is a great use of tax dollars.

  • My buddy adopted a DC Street Bunny- it literally crawled onto his foot at tacquiera districto federal.

  • Protect and conserve? Why exactly?

    • That’s my question. The only good rabbit is in a stew pot, as far as I’m concerned.

Those nasty little fuckers are as bad as deer for destroying a garden.

    • I half expect it to be about preparing for a cull. I think I think this because of a thread on DCUM about bunnies (which contributed to my leaving that site months ago and never looking back). The outrageous level of vitriol on both sides of that discussion (“I fucking hate all fucking rabbits and wish I could catch them all so I could fucking vivisect them as slowly and torturously as possible!” versus “What do you horrible harpies with unsatisfying sex lives have against the sweet baby bunnies?!?! You better hope I never see you close to one of the precious furry angels cuz I’m going to shoot YOU!!!!!”) was enough to send me on my way.
Anyway, point was, some people hate rabbits, and probably complain vociferously about them. So maybe DDOE is investigating “population control”.

I was wondering the same thing. But now you can be the bitter one instead of me!

  • The rats ate them all in my neighborhood.

  • Seriously? This is what they are spending our taxes on? What a waste!

  • There’s one that lives near the 1200 block of Randolph NW that I’ve spotted from time to time.
