Random Reader Rant and/or Revel

Photo by PoPville flickr user beaufinley

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. But please no personal attacks and no need to correct people’s grammar. This is a place to vent and/or celebrate things about daily life in DC.

  • Rave: Second date went well, she committed to a third date
Rant: She is gone this entire week, so my paranoia set in
Rave: Went for long bike ride on Saturday, got soaked 3 times but didn’t care, I was a bit prepared for it
Rave: Got to see some good friends who had moved from the area earlier this year who were in town for a wedding
Rave: Doubly long bike ride around DC yesterday because no rain!

    • Hang in there…i just started seeing someone and they left for a week, came back and it was the same as before πŸ™‚ just be persistent if you want to see the person! Just think there will be plenty to talk about when they get back so ask lots of questions and try to learn as much as possible about the person

      • I’m in the same boat. Rationally, I know my long-distance lover has been busy preparing for a trip and now celebrating a religious holiday out of town with his family. Emotionally, however, I can’t stop thinking that he’s not answering his phone because he’s through with me. Love is making me crazy!

        • he is not answering your texts or calls? That is a little odd….i would say that is not a good sign. But if you have a good date or two before someone leaves for a week, i wouldnt see that ruining things. Just try to keep in touch but obviously dont get too aggressive

  • Rave: Downton Abbey season four (and having British in laws gift you with the season so you can chat about it).
Rave: This weather! Love seeing the seasons change.

Rant: Not a good night’s sleep. I keep dreaming I’m caught in a shooting.

  • Rant: Sarah Palin and Ted Cruz shamelessly crashing the Veteran’s rally on Sunday.

Rave: The rally organizers later calling them out for it.

    • pablo .raw

I was at the rally taking photos and honestly the crowd cheered for both of them. They were chanting “Sarah! Sarah!” and she knows how to manage that crowd. After her speech, she went giving people little flags.

Rant: Flat broke. Which means I get to be a hermit this week.

Rave: Will have to cook at home this week and I’m really excited about the menus I’ve made for the week. I actually budgeted, clipped coupons and bought things that can be used in multiple meals for once. I think i’ve finally become a grownup!

Rant: Despite catching up on sleep most of the weekend I still feel super groggy. I think I slept too much.

Rave: Going to a friends bday today so hopefully getting out of the house will give me an energy boost.

    Rant: Working on a holiday.
Rant: Too much damn work these days. And having all of our federal project officers/partners furloughed doesn’t help, as everything remains in a holding pattern.
Rave: Rain’s gone and I can hopefully get a run in this evening.

Rave: Today is my mother’s birthday, so I’m going to have cake to celebrate.
Rave: Found awesome birthday present for my mom with my sister in Fredrick, Md. I love Fredrick!

  • Rave: Life is good, and I am thankful for my blessings. I don’t have everything I want, but I do have more than I need. Even though I know I worked hard for everything I have, I know a lot of luck and fate was also at work.

Rant: The different mindsets in the world, I don’t understand how the human race can be so widely varied. How can one person think “duh of course anybody who wants to go to school should go to school” and another think “girls should not have education and I’ll kill them to stop it”. How is that possible to be so many people on the far ends of that spectrum? Being on the positive end of the spectrum most of the time I don’t understand the negative.

    • right there with you on rave…..i do have to think a lot of my success was somewhat handed to me on a silver platter. But none the less i have done my part in not dropping the platter so to speak.

rant/rave: went home on friday for my friend’s mom’s memorial service. glad i was able to be there for her.
rave: got to spend a little time with my fam, including my preggo sister πŸ™‚ yay for being an auntie again!
    rave: feeling grateful today.
    rave: it’s SUNNY OUT!

  • Rant AND Rave: I have no friends affected by the shutdown, so in addition to being out of work, I’m kind of lonely.
    Rant: Money is running low
Rant: Contractor so I will never get this $ back

RAVE: This has given me the push needed to do what I’m passionate about, since my current work isn’t even stable.

  • Rave: Illy coffee….i just bought some and did a ‘pour over’ brew….tastes amazing! I think its time i upgrade some chock’o’nuts coffee and start trying new brands/flavors.
Rave2: I am furloughed starting today so i have time to experiment with such things.
Rave3: I had a girl over for dinner and watched tv, we have seen each other about five times now and it seems like things are going well. This was the first time she came to my apartment and she was really impressed with my crib πŸ™‚

  • Rant: Photographic evidence from Friday night has emerged. Messy boots!
    Rave: Sunshine
Rant: Had high hopes for Paternity Court but I’ll stick to Maury

  • Rave: Bentzen Ball’s Music Revue, where Nick Offerman and Nancy & Beth did absolutely golden covers of Cypress Hill’s “Hits from the Bong” and Riskay’s “Smell Yo Dick.”

  • Rave: Stopped being lazy, did the password reset on Popville so no longer anonymous.
Rant: Working today when clearly most people aren’t as evidenced by the number of comments here.
Rant: Car broke down Saturday. And the mechanic hasn’t called back to tell me how much it’ll be.
Rave: AAA. They arrived in under 30 minutes,. The driver knew that the showroom was in a different place than service so made sure we went to the right address ( I did not know this). Driver also gave me a ride to metro.

    • I think most people in the DC area have work today. My metro station was just as busy as usual this morning. Maybe the majority of commenters on this site just happen to be government employees.

  • Rant: This is the only posting on Popville today. PoP, are you there?

    • I think he takes off on Federal holidays.
Rant: There are only one or two days a year that I have to buy lunch, and today was one of them. Everything’s closed around here! I ended up going to Harris Teeter.
Rave: got my grocery shopping done while I was there, and it was a nice day to be outside wandering around for an hour.

Rave: My parents. My bro and I are both in our mid-late 30s, and neither of us has kids. His wife lost a baby a couple years ago, and I do not want children. But my parents never EVER make us feel guilty or bad or even bring up the fact that they don’t have grandchildren. As a matter of fact, my Mom raves about my pets and my “city life” to her friends all the time… sometimes I can’t believe how lucky I am to have the parents I have. I try to tell them that I appreciate them a lot, but I need to do it more often.

Rant: Feels like I’m the only person on the planet working today. :/

  • Rant/Rave: Starting an elimination diet in an attempt to figure out if food sensitivities are partly to blame for chronic inflammation and thyroid issues. Getting tired of the doctors just writing more prescriptions instead of trying to figure out why I have these issues in the first place. I’m cutting out pretty much everything that is known to have inflammatory effects, and it’s quite a lot. However, I just finished a kitchen renovation and this will force me to get creative with the cooking and use my shiny new appliances. Also, if I feel better in a month, maybe I can reduce the dosage (or eliminate completely) the NSAIDs I’ve been taking for the last 6 years. My doctor has me living in fear of developing an ulcer from taking them for so long, but if I go more than a day or so without them I’m in a huge amount of pain.

  • Rant: Friend’s party over the weekend did not go as I had hoped
    Rant/Rave: Junk food

Neither: That Man A – No luck on the bike frame. Sorry it took so long to get a response. Good luck on the search.

  • RANT: I am really bothered how a hot dog vendor is allowed to have a permit to set up in front of the entrance to the Petworth Libray with numerous HUGE cigeratte posters all over the cart. It is not so much the large cigeratte ads ~ which I would think would be illegal within a certain distance from schools and libraries ~ but on numerous occasions I have seen large groups of smokers hanging out smoking at the cart. It is particularly annoying because the location of the cart is in the middle of the block directly in front of the fenced in lawn so you cannot enter the library without walking right up to and beside the cigeratte peddler. Can’t he at least set up shop on the corner or across the street. I don’t want to walk my child through a cloud of smoke coming and going to the library.
RAVE: I got that off my chest

  • Rant: People saying “Happy Columbus Day.” Columbus was not a good person and did not do good things.
Rave: Nice bike ride to work this morning after a week of riding Metro. I need fenders real bad.

  • Rave: Born and raised Texan here who grew up on BBQ and all the fixins’. Recently went to Epiphany BBQ in Petworth on Georgia Avenue. Wow. Great service and their rib sandwich was finger licking good.
