New Company, CycloMend, “brings bicycle mechanics to you” in DC

I thought this was very cool. From CycloMend’s website:

“We maintain a network of local, independent, mobile mechanics that work on your bike where you want, when you want. Not only do we help you find the right mechanic, we also streamline the scheduling process, handle payments, source parts and make sure you pay a fair price…all for about the same prices as a bike shop.”

  • This sounds awesome. Too bad their coverage area is so small. If they went to my neighborhood (Brightwood) I would totally use them. It seems the service area is in areas with easy access to bike shops. Areas outside easy access to bike shops (those who need/would use) this service aren’t included. I hope they reconsider these boundaries.

  • Yup, sounds awesome but ignores I feel the two areas that would most benefit from this mobile service are not covered: the CCT and MBT trails which have a lot of commuters and no bike services along the way. The current coverage map is absolutely rife with bike stores that one could easily walk their ride to.

  • I don’t understand why you wouldn’t just go with District Fix ( Great Yelp! reviews, broader service area, and I can personally vouch for their amazing, super cheap service. James made a number of tune-ups to my bike for $20 or $30, which would probably have cost me $60 to $100 at a bike shop. He also taught me about what he was doing while he was making adjustments so I could make some repairs myself.

  • 2nd S. Reynolds comment. District fix is usually cheaper than my local shop and they’re super honest. Glad to have district fix servicing my neighborhood.

  • Third to districtfix. James was prompt and spent a ton of time on a broken bike chain and squeaky seat. results and service above and beyond the $30 fixit price I paid.

  • Thanks for the shout out, PoP, and good news: we’re constantly expanding our service area as we sign up additional mechanics. Check out the site – map is updated, we’ve gotten a couple mechanics signed up in Petworth and Navy Yard areas….and more to come!
