New Banh Mi and Sushi Option Coming to former Senor Chicken space in Columbia Heights

Back in August of last year a reader noted that the former Senor Chicken space was for lease in DC USA. Well they finally got a new tenant – I spoke with the owners who told me it will be a “sushi and banh mi” restaurant. Could be awesome – I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the food is solid. Updates as they get closer to opening.

Senor Chicken originally opened back in November 2009.

  • YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY. Columbia Heights is severely lacking in sushi.

  • I loved Senor Chicken and I’m still sad about its closing. Can anyone recommend another nearby restaurant to get that delicious chicken and that yummy white sauce?

    • Goto granjo de oro. It’s in Adams Morgan on Columbia road. It’s delicious. Give the green sauce a try as well

    • I, too, enjoyed Senor Chicken, even if it was strange and sterile inside. But I always thought Pollo Sabrosso, virtually next door, was better.

    • It’s not in Columbia Heights, but Cafe Silvestre in Brookland is bikeable from there and has very solid chicken, pupusas, and enchiladas. Their hot sauce (the creamy reddish/orange stuff) is amazing.

  • Banh mi and sushi at the same place? That doesn’t sound promising.

  • Following up on yesterday’s R&R comments about a “do it yourself PoPville happy hour” – I’m proposing next Wednesday Sept 11 at Acre 121’s outdoor patio.
A combination of the “introvert’s happy hour” (suggested a few weeks ago) and the “hard to meet people in DC” happy hour from yesterday.

  • Wondering about the banh mi angle with Pho 14 just a few storefronts down – not that the sandwiches are really the big draw there.

  • What CoHe is sorely lacking is an Indian spot. It doesn’t even need to be great, as long as it has butter chicken and honors the traditional south asian custom of offering a lunch buffet for less than $14.

    • Salt and Pepper Grill at Georgia and Fairmont (technically Pleasant Plains, but close enough) is excellent and cheap. Actually just finished eating takeout from there.
