Your Afternoon Animal Fix

If you have any animal/pet photos you’d like to share please shoot me an email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com with ‘Animal Fix’ in the title and say the name of your pet and your neighborhood. Your photos will go into the queue (usually 3-4 weeks wait) and will be posted in the order I receive them. If you’ve already entered your pet and would like to do so again – that’s no problem – just space the entries out a bit.

“Steve from Columbia Heights after an afternoon in the sprinkler”

“This is my adorable tabby, Toonces. She and I live at Twin Oaks on 14th Street NW. She’s about ten years old.”

Miss Dora

“Dora soaking up the sun on Capitol Hill. She is a rescue from City Dogs Rescue”

Also a reader writes:

“I thought the animal-loving peeps who check the blog might want to know that the Washington Humane Society is reducing adoption fees this week due to the overwhelming number of animals that have come in: WHS Adoption Promotions Just thought it would be good to share!”

And another sends word of tonight’s City Dogs Rescue EatWell Dining Night Out.

Love them all! Dora kind of reminds me of Pinky form Pinky and the Brain.

also, the WHS is looking for donations for their emergency medical fund. they’ve had an influx of injured dogs and are almost out of the emergency medical funds- please consider donating if you can.

  • Toonces! Watch out for that utility pole! Get off your cell phone!

  • i adopted my cat from the humane society this weekend and they definitely have a lot of really adorable cats that need homes. they have cats of every age, shape and color, so really suited for anyone’s tastes and preferences. i also had a really wonderful experience with the people working there, so i highly recommend checking them out and giving a cat a forever home.

  • Toonces’s pose reminds me of those school pictures where the photographer would arrange your arms to have one over the other.

  • I checked the site for small animals (hamsters, gerbils) but they don’t seem to get many of those. Only a couple of rabbits and guinea pigs shown.

On another note, does anyone know if the WHS accepts donations of open bags of pet food? My dog hated our attempt at a more conveniently-available food, so I have a large almost-full sack of it.

Washington Animal Rescue League will accept food donations for their community food bank, which helps low income folks keep their pets.

      • I’ve tried to donate an open bag of food to a shelter but was refused. Felt terrible throwing it away but my dog couldn’t eat it and I couldn’t find anyone to take it.

  • Steve is one cool dude.

  • Love Toonces is such a lady…legs always crossed ladies!

  • I can’t believe I am going to say this, but Steve looks cute.

  • I love Steve and would love to know what kind of dog he is!!! He looks just like Cocoa, my former wire-haired pointing griffon. <3 RIP Cocoa!
