  • $500/person in a decently renovated townhouse? Not bad.
Location is the pits, though. I’d only consider it if I had a car and didn’t have a girlfriend who likes to come over at night.

    • Maybe I couldn’t really tell, but it looked like the third bedroom was more of an office….? If so a third roommate wouldn’t be doable.

  • The inside is ok but this is in a really bad location. Really bad.

  • The townhouse itself is nice enough, especially for the price. The location, though . . . No. That’s just a no go.

  • Why is Trinidad a no-go? Just curious – is it because it’s not accessible by metro, or is it a bad area?

    • The latter.

      • Well both really. It’s still a bad area and then you have to walk several blocks to then wait for a bus to get anywhere.

I know Trinidad is bad now, but with the streetcar finally getting closer to opening, Union Market, and other changes in the neighborhood, I think it will change a ton in the next 5 years.

        • All true (and it is worth remembering that, just five years ago, the violence was so bad in Trinidad that MPD set up checkpoints on the roads leading into the neighborhood. Checkpoints later ruled unconstitutional, to be sure, but the situation was bad). The streetcar, etc, provides the case for buying, though, not renting. Your cheap house will quickly go away if you rent this place. If you can buy nearby, though, you may neta tidy profit in a few years.

    • Trinidad isn’t a no-go. There are parts that are rougher than others, but it’s nowhere near as bad as people would have you believe.

This house is very near the soon-to-open Bardo brewpub, FWIW.

  • For $1500 that’s a really nice house. Trinidad like the rest of DC is one of those neighborhoods that is horrible on one block because of drug activity but could be really nice on another block.

Unfortunately the back of the house looks like a cell block or at least the cell blocks shown in prison movies.

  • You know the neighborhood is a bit rough when there’s bars on the second floor windows in back too. Do the neighbors rob each other or do the neighborhood burglars shimmy up onto balconies?

  • We are renting a row house at Morse and West Virginia for two months before we close on our new condo in Adams Morgan. That is about as far into Trinidad as I would go. The neighborhood where this featured rental is located is tremendously bad. I’m black and I drove through and locked my doors near there when I was lost one day trying to get back from Home Depot.

Between the Section 8, crime and just overall rough look of the neighborhood I would not recommend it. While it may transition in 5 years with the trolly rail on H, that area will still be riddled with low income housing and crime.
