Popping Up on 11th Street

Thanks to a couple of reader for sending. These are two former row houses on 11th Street, NW just south of Park Road near El Chucho.

Probably a bit too early judge but it looks like it’s got potential to look pretty good. Updates as construction progresses.

  • I like the set back. It looks like they’re matching the style of the original building, so it won’t look out of place in the neighborhood. This is how pop ups should be done.

  • I wonder why they smeared cement over the existing brick facade. It’s unfortunate, but the pop-up looks reasonable (as pop-ups go).

    So far so good.

  • I’m guessing that the brick was in disrepair. Pointing brick is a very expensive process.

  • I walk through that alley every day. Has anyone noticed the Hard Hat Danger sign and how they say you are at risk from falling debris from walking through the alley. They can’t release themselves from liability by doing that can they.

  • I asked the construction team about this months ago. The front of the building will be stucco– cementing the wall was the first step. They will add another layer of cement/stone mixture to create the textured stucco look.
