New Restaurant Coming to former Cajun Experience Space to be Called Bar Charley, Hoping to Open Aug. 22nd

1825 18th Street, NW

Back in May I shared some scuttlebutt that a new restaurant from Jackie Greenbaum was coming to the former Cajun Experience space. Greenbaum is owner of Jackie’s in Silver Spring and El Chucho in Columbia Heights.  In July the scuttlebutt was confirmed. In addition to the name, Bar Charley, now comes more details from the Washington Post:

“A sneak peak [of the menu] reveals a lobster roll, bison sloppy joe, salt cod and spaghetti, smoked chicken thighs on dirty rice, shrimp and pork dumplings, papri chaat, and frankfurters with warm potato salad. Exceptions to those small plates (subject to change) will be two dishes designed for two: a wood-grilled steak and a whole fish.”

Standby for an expected August 22nd opening.

  • A bar called Charley? Reminds me of my old favorite Brooklyn haunt, Cokie’s.
I heard the bathroom will be busy.

  • Kind of amazing that so many places have gone out of business here. It used to be a decent Peruvian place. You’d think that the Lauriol Plaza overflow and foot traffic going to Adams Morgan alone would be good enough to keep a place in business.

  • Didn’t the Cajun Experience have a nice patio out back? Here’s to hoping that remains.

  • Patio will always be there but unhappy neighbors will make sure it’s closed by 9pm.. good luck to new owners dupont is a rough place to open a business.
