The National Weather Service reports they have issued a tornado WATCH for the DC area until 10pm.

What to do in a tornado:

– Go to a pre-designated shelter area such as a safe room, basement, storm cellar, or the lowest building level. If there is no basement, go to the center of an interior room on the lowest level (closet, interior hallway) away from corners, windows, doors, and outside walls. Put as many walls as possible between you and the outside. Get under a sturdy table and use your arms to protect your head and neck.

  • This alert isn’t well constructed. Would do well to say:
    1. There is a tornado watch for the area
    2. Definition of tornado watch (conditions favorable) & what to do
    3. Definition of tornado warning (tornado spotten on the ground) & what to do – take shelter, etc

    • As a meteorologist, I 100% agree with your comment. I mean, even I needed to seek out the Storm Prediction Center website to get all the information that you were discussing. It would be nice if they could send out an alert with a link to the actual wording of the watch so that people could take a closer look if they wanted (
