Random Reader Rant and/or Revel

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. But please no personal attacks and no need to correct people’s grammar. This is a place to vent and/or celebrate things about daily life in DC.

  • rant: cars, buses and cabs treating bike lanes like parking spots, driving lanes, or even a good place to make a u-turn (on Pennsylvania ave).

    revel: summer is finally here!

  • Every once in a while, I like to post about how much I dislike my neighbors. I like to make up songs and sing them, hoping that one day they will get so tired of me singing about the union of Hatchet Face and No Balls, they will pack up and move.

For a long time, I really hated where I lived and even my house (that I poured a ton of money and time into) because of them. But then I found out that their neighbors on the other side hate them too, so I realized it is not just me!

They are horribly condescending to each other, their children and everyone around them. They really belong in a suburb with a homeowner’s association.

I really dislike them intensely. Thanks for listening.

  • Just moved into my new place and after 6 weeks, I still do not have my dang mailbox key!!! I am so upset!

  • does anyone have info on the guy who was running in his underwear on sherman/new hampshire ave last night? i was kinda hammered and waiting on the bus and this dude runs by in his undies. i thought he was drunk and playin a prank or somethin but he looked out of his mind. I asked if he was ok and he said he needed water. the cvs was closed at this time so i couldnt get him any water. i think he was cutting himself too. i dont know if he was high or has a serious mental problem. anywho, does anyone out there know what happened?

  • Last night, the Block Captain on 7th between Sheperd and Tuckerman told us we could not park in front of her house, that “we people” have no business in her neighborhood. She’d been there 50 years and “we don’t belong here.” She got even more irate when we told her we live own a house a few blocks over and our kids go to school down the street. After a few minutes of her tirade, all we could do was walk away.
Nice. Almost brought my wife to tears. We’ve been here five years now and no one has ever spoken to us like that. I’m thinking she got in to the sherry earlier in the day, but it still bothers me. I though Petworth had moved past that.

    • I have a retirement house in Asheville. There is an AA neighbor there who demands that nobody park in front of her house without her permission. Unlike DC, parking it not really a problem (except in front of her house).

Anybody have any insight into this? Is is a standard “right” claimed by lots of people, or an AA thing? I find it odd.

      • good lord no, it’s not an AA thing. it’s a crazy person thing.

      • dont speak in codes if you going to complain be real AA=African-American ,but we perfer to be called black since an african american can be anyone including whites who was born in africa and now an american. Cause we don’t use code words when talking about the recessive trait race which is the white people. So say what you mean.

    • petworth may have moved past that. but crazy hasn’t. do not let it get you down.

    • what’s a “block captain”?

  • Rant: I was eaten alive by mosiquitos.

Rant: My girlfriend’s first camping trip did not go well.

To all: if you are breaking your lady friend into camping make sure they have bathrooms or showers avaliable. Probably did not help that she got her period early and attracthed all those bears. She put the whole campsite in danger.
