  • Lots of criminal activity in and around this 3-4 block radius recently, and we’re not even to May yet. Definitely concerned about the upcoming summer months and hope MPD is noticing this trend too.

  • If only the gentrifiers would move away we could stop living in this climate of fear.

  • Oh lawd!! Q street crew has a beef.

  • I’ve been visiting friends at 7th and N since 2006 (not all that long, I know). I’ve slept with those tall police lights directly outside of the window next to my head in the aftermath of shootings that kill, say, a little girl on a playground or a guy in a wheelchair.

That said, I have never felt the atmosphere so tense as I have in the past 2-3 months. I now see lookouts on the corners, crews eyeing each other from opposite sides of the street, and local residents literally looking over their shoulders as they scurry about. I’ve also seen an increase in police presence (props to the cops). I’m used to spending time in neighborhoods with bad crime reputations, but walking/driving through Shaw lately feels very different. I get the feeling I’ve stumbled into a shooting gallery at a police academy. Everyone around looks wide-eyed and ready to start blazing at the first thing that moves too quickly

I don’t know what sort of street politics have changed, but things seem to be coming to a head. Anyone know what’s really going on?
