Judging El Chucho’s New Roof Deck Roof

3313 11th Street, NW

In late Feb. we learned El Chucho’s roof deck was getting a roof. For those who’ve been, does it still feel like you’re on a roof deck?

How do you think the overall look turned out – Thumbs up or down?

  • This is gonna be awesome for the summer. I really love the deck!

  • I dunno, it’s pretty small and it’s not nearly as good looking as their really clever main dining area.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE their food, but apparently everybody else does, too, so I’m finding myself passing it up lately because it’s just way too packed, no matter the time of day.

    • I like the place but it is always way too packed. Also, some people consider me a “hipster” and even I feel out-flanneled and out-hipstered there.

  • It reminds me of a greenhouse. Not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

  • I’ve been to the roof deck a couple times. It is pretty small. In a related note, I would be pretty furious if I owned the cream colored house to the left in those photos. I am sure the upper floor is where their bedrooms are and this roof deck not only goes right up to one of their windows, but I imagine the noise, which gets pretty loud at times translates directly through that brick wall. I share a party wall in my row house and while my neighbors are pretty quite, you can hear them watch TV. I can’t imagine what it is like to have to deal with ~30-40 people drinking till 2:00 am for most of the year while the roof deck is open.

    • For what it is worth, the patio seating and customer-accessible hour does not extend out to the bedroom window. If you go there, you’ll note that have that area blocked off and full of plants so people can’t access it.

They used to only let people up there for dinner service til 9:30 or so, not sure if this still will hold.

  • the plants up there don’t look that great. are they bamboo?

I liked the more tranquil feeling it had before. But that was also pretty unprotected if it ever started raining. I kind of find this construction an eyesore.

  • anyone know why they got rid of their brunch menu?
