Old Church at 10th and V Street, NW For Lease Again

The saga of the old Church at 10th and V St, NW continues. Thanks to a reader for sending word that it’s up for lease again. For a minute it looked like it would become a

“a 6-story, 37-unit condo building that will also house SORG’s offices.”

Back to the drawing board I guess…

  • How much is the monthly rent on a church nowadays?

  • Who would ever lease that?? Why doesnt the slum lord SORG just sell it and put the neighborhood out of its misery with them as an owner. HORRIBLE COMPANY!!!

    • They have long been horrible neighbors. I bet that if their potential clients knew how they treated the neighborhood, they might not have much business.

      • What else have they done that’s so horrible?

Between their large office building on U Street and the developments they’ve built in this small area, it seems that they picked up a lot of land in area.

    • Who are you and did you used to work there?

  • This building was not up for lease previously. This is the first time. Sorg, the owner, continues to get away with paying wrong category of property taxes. She has escaped the vacant building tax by always claiming wrong property tax category and then showing false progress within deadlines to improve property. The hole in the roof was closed only after the building was
condemned. Any activity toward improvement was always halted. The “lease” sign must be another false show of progress as deadline approaches. The building is not ready for lease. The inside is still a shell and pigeons lived inside recently. Can a responsible journalist do an investigation?

  • please just freaking sell it to someone that will develop it!!!!

  • I live in the neighborhood, Ill just keep taking the sign down

  • This property has so much potential and a great location, but there is no reasonable basis to claim this isn’t “blighted.” The church and adjacent lot have become rat central in the neighborood. DC should requir more than mowing the lawn twice a year and covering the windows with plywood to get this property off the blight list.

  • I have heard rumors that the DC Eagle is looking to move into that property.

    • Nice way to start a rumor of your own. That church is from 1850 era and is so small that it could hardly house a family of 4. It is useful just as an office. – unless the Eagle plans to downsize to about 1/10 its current size.

    • I also heard the same rumor about the DC Eagle.
