Homicide in the 600 block of Edgewood St, NE and Shooting in the 900 block of Delaware Ave, SW

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting which occurred in the 600 block of Edgewood Street, Northeast.

On Saturday, March 30, 2013, at approximately 2:09 am, patrol units from the Fifth District responded to the 600 block of Edgewood Street, Northeast for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The decedent is identified as 33-year-old Irving Jones, Jr. of Northeast, Washington, DC.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons wanted for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police at (202) 727-9099. Additionally, anonymous information may be submitted to the department’s TEXT TIP LINE by text messaging 50411.

This morning, [March 30th] at approximately 3:35 AM, members of the First District were flagged down in reference to a shooting. Members responded to a residence in the 900 block of Delaware Avenue, SW, where they discovered an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, who was conscious and breathing, was transported to a local hospital for treatment. A second victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment after sustaining non-life threatening injuries while fleeing the scene. Lookout for (2) black males, slim builds. No further description at this time.

  • Not to belittle whats happened in these or in previous incidents, but it does seem like a lot of the most serious crime (homicides and shootings) in DC occurs between 2AM and 5AM. As someone who is considering moving into the District, who is seldom awake at those hours, and never on the street at those hours, this makes me think that these serious crimes, troublesome as they are, should not be a deterrent to moving.

  • Scary. My friend and his girl wanted to walk back from Navy Yard to their SW place going through I Street last night. Good thing I drove them.

    So many oxygen thieves in this city.
