The reader comments on the website are pretty awful, but I don’t think that’s what’s really dragging the paper down. (I try not to read them, but occasionally I do and then kick myself later.) The articles on national politics tend to be very good, but the articles on other topics don’t tend to be as high in quality.

It’s disappointing — I used to think of the Post as running a close second to the New York Times in terms of quality, but now the gap between the two seems to have widened.

First easy thing they could do is moderate the comments. The amount of racist and ignorant trash that comments on their articles is astounding. I’m amazed at how thoughtful many of the comments on the nytimes are.
