  • I hate when they call this street part of Kalorama Triangle. Knowing that the street after (Mintwood and actually closer to Kalorama) is the block where Adams Morgan Day started at – it is a shame they no longer want be associated with Adams Morgan.

      I live on that street and I call it Adams Morgan, not that the Realtors or anyone care.

    • Annoying, but wise. If you advertise something as ‘Adams Morgan’ to a person in the market for a $3 million dollar house they’ll think barf and noise. The name Kalorama conveys calm and affluence.

    • They call it Kalorama Triangle, because it is Kalorama Triangle (the area bounded by Calvert, Columbia and Connecticut). There’s no grand conspiracy here.

    • Kalorama Triangle (a.k.a. “Kalorama Triangle Historic District”, listed on the Natl Register of Historic Places) was a pre-existing neighborhood for half a century before anyone had even invented the name “Adams Morgan”.

      If anything, Adams Morgan crashed the party, not the other way around.

    • Hmm, do you also hate how they sometimes call the area south of U St. Shaw now? As others have pointed out, it was Kalorama first and technically, still is.

  • I’m a fan. That apartment is awesome. None of the renovations look cheap, but there’s nothing obnoxiously over the top either. If I had a cool $3M to drop on a house, this one would be a contender.

  • No soul, charm..nothing. Looks like just another house, chopped into sterile condos. What a shame.

  • I don’t know whether the house is worth it or not – I have no feel for that part of town or that price demographic. I was so distracted by all the beige and brown (maybe the light turned the color scheme). There were some light green pillows and the closet had some color.

    I don’ know if this is the owners decor or a stager was hired but honestly the ambiance just made me tired and led me to wonder if it was a cheap flip job (the closet pics changed my mind). Note to house sellers, there is a fine line between setting your house up to sell by depersonalizing/declutering some and staging it to within an inch of its life and making the place lifeless. The fact that home buyers often can’t get beyond the decor works both ways. Too much personality can be just as off-putting as none at all. And for this house in particular – someone looking to spend almost $3 million is going to have expected more from the decor.

    • Getting distracted by staging decor, e.g., pillow colors, paint, etc is a typical rookie mistake in home buying. Probably someone who would focus on pillow colors is a first time home buyer??? Who knows – not likely to be able to afford this kind of home anyway.

      You are right that there is a fine line between staged and lifeless. But some people see lifeless as a blank canvas.

  • Lots to love, but is this a house with millions of showers and no bath tubs? For real?

    • agreed, not a single bathtub in the entire house, what a freaking joke! obviously there wasn’t a woman’s input on the remodeling of the bathrooms

  • Sad renovation, no soul, no character. Best part of the house is the basement arches, too bad they gutted it and decided to go with high-rise chic.

  • beautiful facade. who wouldn’t love that kitchen and breakfast nook? agree that the basement apartment may be the best part. wonder what that will rent for.

    • If you can afford a $3 million house, you probably don’t need the rental income from the basement.

      My guess is that the owner keeps it empty for their out-of-town guests.

      • I really don’t know why people think that those wealthy enough to afford a $3 million home would just let a perfectly good income property sit empty for no good reason. How do you think those people made enough money to afford $3 million homes to begin with? By being financially shrewd, most likely. Or marrying rich. Ha.

        That 2 bedroom apartment could probably knock $3500 – or more than 30% – off the owner’s typical mortgage payment. That’s pretty significant income to forego because you don’t feel like being a landlord.

  • If the flippers get desperate, they could go condo and sell the basement for $600K and the upper house for $2.2 million.

  • Met a guy the other day who told me his parents bought a house on that block back in the 80s for around $100K. Now, did the house gain in value or did the dollar loose purchasing power?

    The rest looks like my friend’s condo in Clarendon. Hollow core doors will nickel hardware but brass hinges?! How cheap and lazy can you get!

  • Ah yes, the perfect home for someone like me who is looking to drop $3 million on a house that’s only two blocks from Millie & Al’s.

  • Facade is gorgeous. Interior is nothing like how I’d expect a $3 million home to look. It’s just plain boring and cheap looking. It’s such a shame because by the looks of the outside, this place was probably very grand at one time.

  • I like the brick arches in the basement apartment… but wow, the other commenters weren’t kidding when they said the rest of the house had zero character.

  • Meh. Bland, and it’s not just the furniture and wall paint (though they must have gotten a great deal on all of that Flipper Beige). Impossible to believe a house of that vintage with that facade and those basement features wasn’t a lot more interesting and inviting once upon a time.

    But the “Style Designer” feature is very cool!! I repainted the kitchen and it looks much better with darker walls and new countertops. I couldn’t find a floor tile I liked, though.

  • It seems hard to believe they’ll get $2.9m; maybe $2.3 or $2.4. The same thing happened with nearby 1957 Biltmore St: asked $3m, settled for $500K less. And 1957 was a much larger house, with a higher-end renovation.

    My impression is that larger families that need that type of space and can afford $3m would likely pick another neighborhood besides Adams Morgan, maybe with a nice garden instead of 5-car parking. And wealthy couples or single people would probably rather spend the money on a nicer but smaller high-end condo.
