It's actually booby-trapped to be anti-kid.

wow 11K! hmmmm I dont know about that….its a pretty nice area how 11K is a little pushing it.
11k/month would roughly equal the mortgage of a 2.5 million dollar house, which actually seems low for a 6000 square foot house in Kalorama.
Yeah, a transferred World Bank employee might have to go slightly over their per month housing allowance!
Group house for yuppie hipsters (yipsters?)?
Yeah, it’s hard to see who the market for this would be. With 5 bedrooms it’s simply too expensive to be a group house even if you had a couple in each room. And it doesn’t work as a family home because really any family that can afford 11K per month can buy a house and build some equity.
Maybe someone very well-paid at the IMF or World Bank who has a family in tow?
Ha – beat me to it.
Or a corporate lawyer or someone equally well compensated that is only in DC for the short term. Still probably a relatively niche market.
Or a higher-level diplomat..
This thing has been on the rental market for a looooooooooong time. Maybe a year? I guess whomever owns it must have the financial means (or they own it outright?) to let it sit empty.
If I was getting married, I’d offer them a couple thousand for a 24 hour rental for a wedding. It would probably be a lot cheaper than most other venues in the city.
Or rent it for a month – and sublet it for 3 additional weddings/functions.
You could make money on your wedding!
Wow, I’m always railing that the Rent Is Too Damned High, but this one might be the first that I’ve just basically laughed because it’s just too silly.
I think you are underestimating the average pocket depth of some regular ole GT or GWU students. I’ve seen much nicer and more expensive go to glorified group homes where each student was paying 2000-2500 a month to share a bathroom.
Been there, done that. I thought I was cool at the time. Now? Not so much.
If your budget stretches to the $11k threshold, quite likely you’re only planning to rent that house for a short while. Maybe you’re here on temporary assignment? Maybe your home is being renovated? But it makes little financial sense otherwise.
….renters might be able to afford it as a group house, but the owner likely wants to protect the asset and not rent to a group…
