Back in Nov. 2012 we learned that Paila Grill had closed in Columbia Heights and would be replaced by a Cuban restaurant. I hadn’t heard anything since and was wondering if the project was still happening. So, I was happy to see this sign posted:

It's been there for a week or two already.
It seems like a great idea, and it's badly...

Good, I don’t know where to get a good cuban sandwhich in Columbia Heights.
Eduardo, have you tried the cuban at Fresh Express Gourmet on 14th? It’s pretty good!
Also, I think Anonymous means “Fast Gourmet”, 14th & W NW.
El Floridiano’s founder is opening a restaurant in Petworth called “Mothership”. I’m sure he’ll have good cubans there, like the ones at his food truck. There’s also a good Dominican restaurant next door to where Mi Cuba Cafe’s going to be called “Los Hermanos”. Los Hermanos rocks Dominican/Latin Caribbean food.

I’m pretty sure its opening about a half mile south of petworth in Columbia Heights (or Park View, whichever you prefer)
awesome. i’m looking forward to more caribbean food, but i wonder how it will compete with a dominican place just a few doors down?
I love good Cuban authentic cuisine. I always pick up a good Cuban sandwich during my visits to Miami to bring back to D.C.
I hope this restaurant will be manage and the food will be cooked by Cubanos and not Salvadorans or Mexicans.
Doesn’t it (the sandwich) get cold when you bring it back to DC?
I prefer a cold sandwich and I prefer to put Miracle Whip on my sandwiches. LOL
I love good Caribbean cuisine from the Spanish speaking countries of Cuba, Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico.
RIP Paila…your fish tacos and chacarero sandwiches were too good for this world, at least without the profit margins that would have come with a liquor license…
A franchise of Sophie’s Cuban (chain from NYC) will be opening soon at 1134 19th St, NW. A buddy of mine is part of the ownership group. http://www.sophiescuban.com/369lexington/index.html
It is open, as of this evening. Looks great inside, didn’t go in, but spread the word.
