Mi Cuba Cafe Opens in Columbia Heights

1424 Park Rd, NW

Late last week I mentioned that Mi Cuba Cafe was still coming to Columbia Heights in the former Paila Grill space on Park Road. Little did I know how soon it would be. On Saturday morning I passed by and was able to take some photos a few hours before they opened:

Their website is still under construction but I took some photos of their take out menu which you can see after the jump.

More photos after the jump.

Phone booth replica from Cuba.

Fresh orange juice

I missed the the cuban eatery Omega that used to be in Adams Morgan (probably before most POP readers were born). Maybe this will fill the void of some good Cuban food.

I hope the Ropa Vieja is at least somewhat close to what I had in Miami and I will be a fan!

Ate there last night – great food. Try the flan! Service still working out kinks – quick at first, then slow, slow, slow, even with only a few tables occupied. Looks family run. I’m very happy it’s there.

Went last night to check it out for take-out, and it was great! Very charming family that is running the place, and the food (lechon asado) was excellent.

Got take-out from there on Saturday. While waiting, met the Cuban family who owns/operates the establishment (I agree with anon above – they are absolutely charming!). I was impressed with the artwork and found out the grandmother is actually the artist of all of the artwork, including the wooden phone booth and the wood/silverware installation next to the kitchen door in the second picture.

As for the food: fantastic. Will also say: finally, a damn good Cuban sandwich in DC.

My wife and I went there tonight and everything was amazing. The food was authentically Cuban and delicious. We will return soon with friends and family. The owner/chef is Cuban and his wife and family help run it. They too were great and seemed so happy and eager to please. I will be posting a much longer review in Yelp tonight.

Yo no estado en el restaurante, pero seguro que la comida esta de lujo. Un beso y mucha suerte para Ariel y Jacqueliene.
    Un saludo desde España
