ekelly80 got a great shot of the Hense art project that we first heard about in September. It’s located at Delaware Ave, SW and H St, SW.

Obviously--the building is haunted.
Not really non-traditional, but for me it's hard to beat a nice thick (1-2") ribeye or...
It may be too early for this one, but last summer I grilled peaches (with brown sugar and...
I swear that every summer, outdoor movie line-up features the same films. I realize that...
It looks like the bedroom is only accessible through the bathroom. Weird.
They should have just torn it down, what an eyesore
as someone below noted, it’s on the National Register of Historic Places, so it can’t just be knocked down (and it’s a cool building). I hope it gets redeveloped (offices? charter school? condos?) because it’s not much good to anyone now, but it apparently has asbestos and other problems that make rehab quite expensive. Maybe once the Wharf and more stuff by the Navy Yard open up…this place is right in between.
Wow, stunning. Will go out of my way to check it out next time I’m down there.
This is awesome! DC could use more projects like this!
Juvenile in concept, rank amateur in execution, perhaps aesthetically criminal….in one opinion.
What type of art projects, if any, do you like?
I think they’re planning on tearing this church down anyway.
I hope so, because this is an eyesore.
If only you liked visual art as much as drama your highness.
It is on the National Register of Historic Places, and is one of the few pre-urbanrenewal buildings in SW.
It was built in the 1870s, so it’s gotta be one of the oldest churches still standing in the District.
I like it. It is fun and creative. Unfortunately I am not sure this was a good idea – as illustrated by ewillia8′s comments – because DC doesn’t really tolerate this type of thing all that well.
I think it’s really fun.
Keep SouthWest Weird DC!
I think it’s wonderful!
Looks fantastic!
finally! something joyful that doesn’t have either a Decoy or Towles “urban angst” figure on it.
+1
It’s great. I love massive street art projects like this. It’s power lies in the overwhelming scale.
I like the idea, but the execution was poor.
why did a rainbow throw up on this poor church?
I like it!
i think this looks really cool (im a big fan of Hense)… but I worry about the logistics here… if they aren’t going to tear it down… are they planning on repainting? Blasting off the paint to expose the brick again? not sure that either of those options (maybe there are others?) will leave a very nice surface for whatever happens at this location next.
