From MPD:
On November 30, 2012, at approximately 10:15 PM, 2 adult male victims were located in the 600 block of Newton Place, Northwest suffering from several gunshot wounds to their legs. Both males were taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The suspects were described as unknown, males, 5’6-5’8” in height, wearing all black clothing and armed with a black color handgun last seen running toward 6th Street, Northwest.

And just after midnight MPD tweeted:
“D Armed Carjacking //1200 block U Street NW //LOF a blk 4D Merc Benz unknown tag number last seen west bound towards V Street NW”

“armed with a black color handgun”
Cop-speak often adds the word “color” after an adjective describing a color, sometimes to unintentionally hilarious effect. In this case, it invites the question “so, which misinterpretation of the phrase ‘black handgun’ was the author trying to avoid?”
This idiom kind of made sense when it was just used to disambiguate descriptions that used the words “gold”, “silver”, etc (was it a gold watch, or just a gold-colored watch?). But for most every other color, it’s just an unnecessary word.
I am wondering if the triple shooting this morning had anything to do with this.
we’re utterly helpless in stopping this violence.
