I agree we need a grown folk bar not a nerd place to eat and sip coffee. A brewery would be awesome with a full size bar and TV’s to watch the games. Cedar Tavern closes to early and Takoma Station does not cater to the neighborhood..

Sure hope they’re going to underground those wires as part of the development. Would make things look MUCH nicer.

Agreed. The contractors have been saying for over six months now that construction is “a couple of weeks away.” This latest statement just got picked up by another blog and is spreading left and right now. Anyone in the neighborhood knows not to believe it until they start backing up their words with actions.

This development has been NOTHING but a hole in the ground for at least a year with ZERO progress beyond the Takoma Central fence wrapping in the past couple months.

Show some actual progress please.

There is construction just south at the formerly vacant Airway VIP Room on 3rd st NW right by Coolidge’s football field…im really hoping thats going to be some type of restaurant/bar but havent seen anything written about it anywhere

Will there definitely be first floor retail (e.g. the opportunity for a bar/restaurant)? The way I read the description, it doesn’t sound like it.

I agree that Takoma needs a good drinking establishment. Why don’t hippies like beer?

Totally agree with you, but at this point, I won’t be picky about what restaurants move into the retail level. I’ll take anything.

I spoke to the manager at Takoma Bistro a few weeks ago, and they expect to be serving beer and wine by early 2013, so that’ll help the Takoma Park restaurant desert a bit. Honestly, I love Roscoes, but only so much.

Finally…. I really hope this gets done in the next year. I also hope that the development includes a beer bar. There isn’t one decent bar in the area. Cedar Crossing is more of a wine bar and has to close early due to condo rules. Somebody built a bar with about 30 beers on tap in downtown Takoma Park but didn’t have the money to stay open normal hours and it flopped. Then there’s the bar in the back of Middle East Gourmet. It’s small and kind of thrown together. It will do if you’re in a pinch but the neighborhood needs it’s own Meridian Pint.
