You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. But please no personal attacks and no need to correct people’s grammar. This is a place to vent and/or celebrate things about daily life in DC.

  • Rant & Rave: Inauguration housing.

Following up to a forum post from yesterday – If anyone is serious about renting their place out for inauguration – I have (so far) 4 interested parties with whom I have already corresponded. I can only take one for my place, but I’m happy to help the others find alternatives, as they all sound like nice people and the search is tough. They have already made offers between $900 – $1200 for a whole stay(of 2-4 nights.)

Please contact me through my Craigslist posting – under Vacation Rentals – search on the headline “Heart of the City – Half Block to METRO.” Please give me your phone number in your email as I’ll want to talk with you before referring people to you. And the sooner the better – people are eager to nail something down and I’ve promised people I would make my decision today.

  • What exactly does “relaxed parking” mean? I get that parking meters are not enforced, RP is not enforced. What I don’t get, though, is the part, “abandoned vehicles will not be towed.” I guess save that for another day? So Sat a vehicle sits empty and unoccupied. Come Mon it still sits that way. No worries, though, vehicle won’t be towed. But Tues, if it is still sitting there as is, it will be towed because it will be assumed that it is abandoned? How is a vehicle determined to be abandoned or not?

  • Rave: Completely smitten.
    Rant: Moving.

  • Rant: My Cricket Wireless phone is still an hour ahead… even though Day Light Savings Time happened last Sunday. Anyone have suggestions for a different affordable phone plan?

    Rave: The weather this weekend.

  • Rant: Had to wait 20 minutes for a train this morning due to track work. Dear WMATA, not EVERYONE has Veterans Day off!

Rave: Miraculously made it to work on time!

Rant: No toner in our copier. I feel like a failed admin.

Rave: Had an AWESOME party this weekend! You know you’re “grown up” when people bring fancy beer and wine instead of hard liquor.

Rant: Roommates and I kep the party going till 4 a.m. (can we say ‘dance party in the living room’?). Ugh, I am TOO OLD for that!

Rave: Phone interview that went well this morning.

    Rant: Plumbing problems.

Rave: Maintenance guy is here working on plumbing problems.

Rant: I HATE being here when the maintenance guy is fixing stuff.

Rave: I’m here because today is a holiday for me.

Bonus rave: I was able to put my small clothes away before the maintenance got here. I think it’s the first time he’s ever been in my apartment and my small clothes weren’t all over the place.

  • Rave: Weekend breakfast/brunch at Open City. Friendly effecient staff, reasonable prices, nice mix of tourists, locals, singles, families, different ages, different races etc, no pretentiousness, pretty good and unfussy food. Why aren’t there more places like this in DC???

  • Rave: Soundgarden’s new album. Welcome back, fellas. It’s been too long (16 years, in fact).
Rant: Dickey getting better odds than Gio to win the Cy Young. Announcement will be made tomorrow.
