Gordon Biersch Coming to Navy Yard

Yesterday Navy Yard ANC Rep David Garber tweeted:

“Work begins on #NavyYard’s newest restaurant, Gordon Biersch. Word on street is that lease official at 100 M St SE”

EaterDC shares a few more details:

“The new brewery will be about 8,500 square feet in size; the opening date wasn’t immediately available.”

Gordon Biersch currently has a DC location at 900 F Street, NW. Any fans of Gordon Biersch?

Think they’ll be able to compete with the Bluejacket Brew Pub from the Neighborhood Restaurant Group?

I’m beginning to think Navy Yard = Beer.

It’s not perfect, but it’s something!

+1. Actually, it’s just what the neighborhood needs. I’ve been saying for years that a large, chain sports bar or brewpub would be ideal for pre- and post-game drinking and dining. The bars and restaurants around Verizon Center are bursting at the seams before and after Caps games. I think this place will do very good business on game days, and hopefully can survive the rest of the year on neighborhood residents and workers.

  • Bluejacket should have no problems with Gordon Biersch. It’s good to see businesses finally filling up the spaces in Navy Yard, but Gordon Biersch isn’t anything to get excited about.

  • Had a decent Kolsch at GB earlier this year, but NRG is the real deal. Those folks know beer.

Different strokes for different folks. Gordon Biersch is a nice, safe choice for families and people who might be looking for some decent prices before Nats games or folks living/working nearby. Bluejacket will be a destination for beer geeks and probably a hot spot for sheeple in the months after it opens. People will descend on Bluejacket, many others will just end up at Gordon Biersch (not that there’s anything wrong with that – and I enjoy their beer). Both will provide respite from Xavier Cervera’s Southeast Reign of Terror™.

“Xavier Cervera’s Southeast Reign of Terror™”

That’s amazing. He’s continuing his war of mediocrity with the Park Tavern at Canal Park and Willie’s Brew and Cue at the Boilermaker Shops. I’m a little scared to see what he does to barbecue…

  • Anything near Nats Park at this point is good with me. And unlike most “chain” brewpubs (I’m looking at you, Hops), GB actually has some tasty beers (I second the kolsch noted above).

And I think GB and Bluejacket will be able to exist in harmony.

  • During baseball season there will be more than enough business for both of them.

I think they’ll both get a lot of business, and not just around baseball season. Tons of people work and live in the area and they don’t have many options for dining and drinking nearby.

Great news! Was just at the Penn Quarter Gordon Biersch for dinner last night. They have fantastic food and original, quality beers. The atmosphere at the 900 F St NW location is also fantastic, as it is in an old bank building (marble columns, etc.) – obviously won’t have that at Navy Yard but should still be a good fit for the neighborhood.

They have a great happy hour. Welcome to the neighborhood.

If this is going into the huge empty space on the Half Street metro exit, it should do great! I always thought that space was crying out for some pre/post game beer and food. GB is good, Im not a big beer person but the food was decent and lots of options for families, daytime lunch folks etc. A really good fit in my opinion.
