1817 Columbia Rd, NW
Last week I shared some sweet Columbia Rd scuttlebutt about the former home of Evolve, Marrakech Lounge, and briefly Mudbugz at 1817 Columbia Rd, NW. I had heard that the folks from Toki Underground could be opening up in the space. City Paper’s Jessica Sidman found out the restaurant will be called TAAN. Their Website : says
TAAN, a modern Asian noodle shop inspired by traditional izakayas and ramen shops, will be opening up late October.
Executive Chef Jonathan Bisagni has composed a menu that will consist of kushiyaki, onigiri, various small plates, and three types of ramen: pork based, duck based, and vegetarian.
With work stints at Kushi Izakaya and Sushi, Morimoto Waikiki, Sticky Rice (RVA,DC, and Baltimore), and Toki Underground diners can expect a well-executed, young perspective of the Asian dining world.
So I wasn’t totally off
Looking forward to trying more noodles in Adams Morgan! TAAN will join Sakuramen which opened nearby at 2441 18th St, NW in late May.

I’ve walked past this place a few times while they were doing work, and it looks really snazzy and bright inside. So nice to see another great addition to the neighborhood. It’s no Pharaoh’s, but hey, it will do.

I miss Rocky.
I love Sakuramen. I hope Adams Morgan is big enough for two great Asian options!
Geez… they’re also opening a Pho 14 on Columbia Road (where the Pizza Hut used to be). People around here better like noodles.
Oh we do! And I’ll take these places anyday over the jumboslice ratmagnets. Adams morgan is changing more briskly than I’d hoped for (although let’s try to forget that “brilliant” SOMO branding effort).
This is a cursed location.
