Random Reader Rant and/or Revel

You can talk about whatever is on your mind – quality of life issues, a beautiful tree you spotted, scuttlebutt, or any random questions/thoughts you may have. But please no personal attacks and no need to correct people’s grammar. This is a place to vent and/or celebrate things about daily life in DC.

For those who have Monday off – have a great 3-day weekend!

  • Rant: I work on Monday
    Rave: I have Friday off!
Rant: I am so-uncoordinated and nonathletic, it is really quite amusing.
Rave: Almost at 165, down from about 205 2 years ago. I have become obsessed with working out and I went from Donuts and pop tarts to Kale and Squash.

Rant: Coming home on Friday to see a fire truck, ambulance, & cop cars on my street. Some dude was splayed out on the side walk & the EMS were tending to him.

Rave: I didn’t really look, but I didn’t see blood, so hopefully not a victim of crime.

I hope the guy is doing ok and it was something very minor!

  • RANT: WTF!! I live on Holmead Place in Columbia Heights and it is 1 pm Saturday … For the past hour I have had two “Keg Bus” monster buses parked with their engines running. People have been coming and going and running back and forth from the buses drinking out of red plastic cups. WTF!!!! Not only are the buses blocking and alley and encroaching on a intersection. They also have had their engines running the whole time for an hour or more. I had the phone in my hand and was about to call the the police when the buses started showing some movement. WTF!… I know that it is not legal to curb those buses and leave the engine running, and on a residential street in front of house is plain rude.

RAVE: those annoying buses finally pulled off

  • Rant: After a never-ending battle with my sinuses and no clear cause, my doctor said I might be mildly allergic to milk &/or wheat. He said to cut them out of my diet for a week, and if I feel better, one of them is likely the culprit and I’ll need to go to an allergist to confirm.

Rave: It is only a week, and it this fixes the sinus problems, it might actually be worth changing my diet.

  • Rant: When did Taste of DC start charging admission AND having sucky entertainment? Used to be a great event.

    • +1 …. I think taste of dc followed the example in sucking that Adams Mogan Day pioneered. Remember when that was was the east coasts greatest block parties? Neville Brothers… Arrow…etc

    • You do get a drink with admission (I paid a little less through a Living Social deal) so it’s not that bad. Given how popular this event is I think it’s good that they charge admission; otherwise it would be unbearably crowded.

I caught the Sean Paul show and thought it was pretty good, mainly because the crowd was so into it.

Rave: I am grateful to be employed again.

Rant: I do NOT enjoy working on federal holidays.

  • Rave – the Nats, specifically Tyler Moore….way to go! I feel good about our chances in the rest of the NLDS.

Rave – Got a bunch of delicious apples, squash, and pumpkins from my trip to the orchard yesterday. Also picked up some hot sauce and canned chutney that I can’t wait to try.

Rant – Forgot the buses and Metro were running on a holiday schedule and so I was uber-late to work this AM.
Rave – Nobody else is at work, so I didn’t get the side-eye. lol.

  • Rave: Yesterday’s Takoma Park Street Festival!
Rant: Working on a federal holiday, as a federal contractor
Rave: Awesome flexible workplace that lets me work from home in the morning to drive my boyfriend to the airport in the afternoon.

    • Same rant as yours, except mine is more of a rave. I like being here catching up on work while my clients are out, and I can probably slip out a little early this afternoon. There seemed to be the usual amount of vehicular traffic and people heading to the metro this morning, so we’re definitely not the only ones in the office today.

Another rave: Wearing a lovely mint green cashmere sweater I got at the consignment store for $30 (similar things are retailing for around $300).

Rant: Didn’t think it was gloves weather, until I set out on my bike and my hands turned to ice!

  • Thanksgiving and Christmas is almost upon us. I love this time of the year. However, Macy’s downtown had Christmas decorations up last month.

I am going on my diet before the holidays get here because there will be so much food during this time.

  • Rant: My cholesterol is apparently way too high. Isn’t 35 a little young for that?

Rave? I have three months to lower it, which coincides nicely with me needing to lose weight before heading to Argentina for vacation on December 18, so perhaps this will motivate me!

  • Rave: Murray’s been found!
    Rant: Maggie’s still missing.
