Photos from the Storm

Please send photos, questions, observations or anything related to Hurricane Sandy via email to princeofpetworth(at)gmail(dot)com or via twitter to @PoPville, via facebook to, or via Flickr to the PoPville pool.

A reader would also like to know if there any organizations looking for extra volunteers to help after the storm to serve the underserved in the area. Does anyone know if volunteers are being sought?

  • #3 looks like snow banks on the side of the parkway. are those really waves?

    • I am thinking maybe it’s foam? You see it a lot at the ocean not sure if it would happen with the potomac too.

    • Click through to see the date as Jan/1996

I thought it was foam too! Sorry about that. I guess he uploaded it as a comparison? Strange. I’ve removed the photo.

      • Sorry — I uploaded the set because the NWS had forecast the river to flood like it did in 1996, and I happened to have some shots of that event. The snow was leftover from the Blizzard of ’96, and the flood was caused by rapid snowmelt on top of a couple inches of rain.

Regarding volunteering – a reader sends word of donations sought:

“I heard DC Centrail Kitchen wants volunteers and Miriam’s Kitchen is desperately looking for donations of mens clothes, socks, gloves, and blankets for those that stayed outside during the storm”
