This location is cursed. Buyer beware... Unless you actually make good food.
Is it Contemporary?
That’s a damn shame they their congregation no longer has the numbers and/or means to maintain the building.
Is the building landmarked?
I’ll miss the illegal parking. Especially the car with the handicapped plates that blocks the crosswalk each Sunday. The end of an era!
+1,000,000. We live 2 blocks from this church and walk with our dog to Stanton Park several times during the day, especially on Sundays. Every Sunday I am filled with RAGE when I see the cars parked in the cross walks. We have tried to get Parking Enforcement to do something about it with no luck.
Well, when you pay off the cops, the cops don’t care about cars double-parked, blocking in residents vehicles, parked in crosswalks, etc.
As far as I’m concerned, these bitchy bigots (nothing like the anti-gay rhetoric that comes out on a Sunday when the doors are opened) can go back to Maryland and never come back.
Agree – used to live close by. Hater congregation – good riddance. And hey, maybe something that will contribute to the tax base rather than use city services tax-free…win-win.

If you refer to this church as anti-gay obviously you’ve never been in. Nothing could be further from the truth. Shame on you for acting like a b….tch! Good riddance to you too!
Who came first? You or the Temple?
stop lying – no cars are parked in crosswalks
Back in the day I would have said something like “Man, I’d love to buy a church like this and renovate it into a club!” But now, after working on a home renovation for just under $300k for 5 months, I wouldn’t ever touch a project like this unless it involved someone else’s money. That’s a whole lotta risk!
I used to live across the street from this church. I assume that the congregation and/or “archbishop” got tired of driving in from the suburbs.

Wow. That is sorta a big deal. Likely going to be too expensive for any but a developer turning it into multi-unit condos.
Looking at the photos and the layout of the church (and the fact that it comes with a 4 story townhouse), it appears that you can turn the church and house into a total of 17 condos. Which turns out to be around $500,000 for each condo. But that does not include renovation costs, loan costs, and that is simply to break even (if the church actually sells for its asking price). It’s not too bad of a deal for being 3 blocks from the Capitol.
Good location for a boutique hotel/w bar. Not sure about zoning issues.
Wow – this is truly the end of an era. If you lived here in the 80′s and 90′s you know that Rev. Stallings was quite the character. Very interesting piece of history
Of late, I’ve noticed a dearth of upscale gay bathhouses in the neighborhood. The fact that it’s a church seals the deal.
I lived a few blocks from this place back in late 90s, early 00s. isnt’ this where they had that major controversy when they accidentally killed a baby they were baptizing by keeping her under water too long? they may have been stallings. from all the illegally parked cars on sunday, it was clear that the vast majority of congregants lived in MD. beautiful building, wonderful location. Condos here would likely go for more than 500k…
alos looks as if stallings liked to touch young boys

no more than you do! So much hate in the air! Why people?
Not a good deal. The redevelopment costs on a building like this would be MASSIVE due to what I’m sure is a ton of deferred maintenance. Unless it can be demo’ed (which I’m relatively sure it cannot) they’ll get no where near the asking price.
There has to be a lot of bad vibes left in this place, if they were drowning babies and inappropriately touching little boys here. It’s probably haunted.
the bad vibes are coming from this blog, such hate speech and half truths.
So defender of the temple, why don’t you elabroate and provide info that proves all these people wrong instead of just saying they’re wrong??
why don’t you or they provide info that they are right?
Looks like an anonymous temple supporter (member?) came on here last night and said a bunch of things, some of which don’t pass the site’s requirement for civil speech:
- “Shame on you for acting like a b….tch!” (9:35 p.m., in response to bgluckman)
- “no more than you do!” (9:42 p.m., in response to an anon who’d posted “also looks as if stallings liked to touch young boys”)
Not sure if the “stop lying – no cars are parked in crosswalks” (9:45 p.m.) counts.
In any event, someone is mighty defensive!
Whatever – after the “temple” gets a new home they can go spam the “Prince of Bowie” blog instead
