Chez Billy Offering Oyster Happy Hour Starting Tues. Oct. 30th

Last week we learned Blackbyrd would become a Vietnamese restaurant and Chez Billy would soon benefit by taking over their raw bar and oyster happy hour. From the folks at Chez Billy:
“Starting Tuesday October 30th, Chez Billy will offer it’s oyster happy hour Tuesday through Friday from 5:30 – 8:00 in the bar. Fresh, delicious, shucked to order oysters delivered daily by our Chincoteague, VA purveyor will be available for $1 each. Pair them up with $5 Muscadet; $5 Champagne; $5 Stella Artois Pints; or our $5 Cocktail of the day.”

Could anyone explain their decision the turn Blackbyrd into a Vietnamese restaurant? That seems like a really odd business decision for them. It also helps me to think that they are trend-prone instead of setting up a business because they are passionate about XYZ. Oh well.
You actually have it backwards.
Blackbyrd was a rush job they did to protect Marvin – they didn’t want a nightclub going in next door so they created Blackbyrd which was a square peg in a round hole. Their Chef is half Vietnamese and his Grandmother, a trained Chef herself recently moved back into the area. They have major passion for this concept. They are going to knock it out of the park.
Thanks for explaining the backstory to this. Still, though, the question remains, why wasn’t it a Vietnamese restaurant from the get-go? Still odd to change course. Rush job shouldn’t have changed or “muddled” the thought process/business decision. I still don’t see why it couldn’t have been a Vietnamese restaurant from the beginning.
Blackbyrd hasn’t really been successful from the start. I think changing it is a good plan.
AWESOME! So pleased Blackbyrd’s Oyster HH has migrated north… and just a few blocks from our house. Huzzah!

Affordable oysters, yes!
Due to the storm and a delayed delivery – the new happy hour will start tomorrow Wed. Oct. 31st!
I checked this out last night. The place was packed but the oysters came out fast and were delicious. I was still hungry enough to head into the dining room to plow through their amazing beef cheek. This place is really living up to the recent praise it has been getting.
We went Thursday night, arrived around 6:45, and got one of the bar nooks for two. The oysters were delicious (medium-sized, creamy, briny), service was quick and friendly. We’ve dined at Billy’s many times, and the oyster HH is a welcome addition.
I spoke to the bartender about the new setup; their plan for now is only for happy hour oysters, not a full raw bar.
(As for drinks, I’m not sure shy $5 Stella is considered a HH discount, but the cocktail du jour was tasty and well worth five bucks.)
