From AccuWeather.com:
Above-normal snowfall is forecast for the major I-95 cities, including New York City, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, D.C., during winter 2012-2013.
The cold is expected to phase with the big storms during January and February with the potential for large snowstorms to make headlines and create travel headaches in the major cities.
Average winter snowfall for DC is said to be 14.6 inches. Above average snowfall in DC could look like this…

I wonder how accurate the Accu Weather predictions have been in the past… better than a random educated guess?
Better not fuck up my trip to Tulum/PDC in January!
Also leaving for Mexico in January and a seconded “better not fuck up my trip!”
Actually, this winter could be a repeat of the last and I would be dee-lighted.
This last winter was amazing. In early Feb we definitely had a few days hit the low 70s. SOLD!
Where you headed to in Mexico? My plan is beaches, temples, scuba diving, partying, and cerzevas.
HA! We’re pretty much planning the same, just on the other coast, and with ATVs. Few days in Todos Santos then a couple in Cabo. I don’t care what it does while I’m gone, but that runway best be CLEAR FOR TAKEOFF!
Oh, I hope so!
Good thing I still have my big unopened bag of salt from last winter…
good thing i just booked a flight for the beginning of february to another wintry place. this seems like a bad sign…
AccuWeather is a misnomer.
They make money by predicting disaster so people buy their products and advertisers buy ads on their site.
That said – I’m very hopeful they are right. The Old Farmer’s Almanac is also predicting a colder and snowier winter for DC.
Capital Weather Gang at Washington Post is putting out their prediction in a few weeks.
Just to let everyone know, last year accuweather predicted an average winter… with average temperatures and snow fall. However, it was incredible warm and it didn’t snow once. to answer dave’s question, some where between random guess and educated guess. i.e. little more than licking your finger and holding it up in the air….
Yaaay! I hope so. I missed not having a good blizzard last year!
+1000
I miss living in CO 522 inches last time I lived there.
Well then, we’d better start thinking of what we’re going to name this year’s Snowmageddon. That’s the most important thing.
Son of Snowmageddon
No chance! It will be the usual DC snowless winter — just some slush and ugly rain.
Maybe you haven’t lived here long, but the typical winter here includes a couple of snow storms ranging from 3-8 inches. Last year was unusually mild.
Noooooooooooooooooo!
I want 10 feet of snow. bring it mother nature.
I only want snow if it happens on a Sunday evening, early enough to know work is canceled before I go to bed, and it shouldn’t last more than 2 days at a time. Please keep these guidelines in mind during the winter, Mother Nature.
I second that.
Although, this is a good excuse to buy more boots.
ding ding ding! Let’s enact the Snow Not On Weekends (SNOW) Act! Comes with its own crappy acronym!
+1 on the SNOW act
and
+1 on snow boots
I hate snow.
However, I want enough cold to kill the weeds, mosquitoes, and fleas.
Thank you.

Turns to snow in my clutch
I’m too much!
Sweet! I’m already getting set to not shovel my walkways!
(And by that I mean sidewalks)
