    • I’m also wondering this. How can section 8 pay for a single occupancy place like this?

      • Just because they’re willing to accept Section 8 vouchers does not mean that folks with Section 8 vouchers can actually live there. Each housing authority has the discretion to set its own payment standards for vouchers, which limit the total rent they will support. These payment standards are generally 90-110% of the “Fair Market Rent” (roughly equivalent to the 40th percentile market rent in that MSA) as defined by HUD.

Rent here is far above the payment standard that a Section 8 voucher in DC will support. While the household can choose to pay more (than the 30% of adjusted gross income that they traditionally contribute under the program), this would come out to be much, much more.

      • The Section 8 thing is a typical legal disclosure (similar to how employment ads often say “equal opportunity employer”) since, in DC landlords are not permitted to discriminate against Section 8 voucher-holders (even if, in many cases, Section 8 tenants would not be eligible to rent there in reality by virture of the high rent and the cap on the voucher amount).

  • Is that a Murphy bed?!

  • Carpet? Bleh. I personally think this price is wayyyyyy pushing the limits for the area and interior of this space, IMHO.
