Scuttlebutt: Busboys and Poets to Open a 5th Location in the former Uniontown Bar and Grill Space?
On Aug. 27th Uniontown Bar and Grill closed at 2200 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SE in Anacostia. At the time WJLA reported:
Late last week, Uniontown Bar & Grill owner Natasha Dasher pleaded guilty to two felonies and may face up to 20 years in prison. According to the Washington Post, she pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute cocaine and a conspiracy charge. Then, on Friday, her landlord evicted her and the restaurant, which was housed at 2200 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SE, because Dasher owed $18,000 in back rent.
In the meantime, the closure of Uniontown leaves another hole in a market that has a dearth of sit-down restaurants and is leaving residents lamenting its loss.
Well that hole may be filled by none other than Busboys and Poets. Busboys has two other locations in the city at 14th and V St, NW and 5th and K St, NW (plus one in Shirlington and one in Hyattsville.) I’m hearing rumors that they’d like to open a 5th location in the former Uniontown space. More info as it becomes available.

Busboys would be a fantastic addition to that community (if Andy Shallal doesn’t mind being accused of “swaggerjacking” again).
Never heard anybody accuse Shalal of such a thing. It’s kinda like the difference between, say, MC Serch and Vanilla Ice.

Great news for Anacostia. I wish Busboys and Poets would open a location in Brightwood/North Petworth. The former Brightwood Bistro is available
and there’s a newly renovated storefront at 5th and Kennedy for lease.
Oh wow. This is great news for the people in the new Coast Guard Headquarters building, starting occupancy in August 2013. Since parking will be limited to only 1 parking place for every 4 employees, it will take a shuttle ride to get most of us off campus over to downtown Anacostia. Let’s see, that will be 5 minute to walk to the perimeter of our secure campus, grab a shuttle for 10 minute ride to the Anacostia Metro (so 15 minutes both ways) leaving us 0 minutes to eat! Not too much business from the new neighbors (at lunch), unfortunately.
Guess you either need to carpool with whoever gets the lucky parking spaces or Busboys needs to deliver to your secure perimeter.

Not all restaurants and bars are funded with drug money, just THIS restaurant.
Good news for Anacostia. The lack of sit down restaurants east of the river needs to change.
Is Anacostia really the new U St?
depends on what you mean by that.
If true, this is very good news for Anacostia. With the relocation of the H Street PlayHouse, possible addition of a Busboys and Poet and the summertime success of the Lumen8 event, this area has great potential of being the next U Street (in its own way ofcourse).
It will be interesting to see how this turns out because the proposed location is nowhere near the size of the U or K Street location.
